Posted - Sep 04 2009 : 2:38:43 PM Hi everyone, I have MJ's Outpost book and I can't put it down! It is SO inspiring, I've NEVER come across the likes of a woman like Mary Jane before. Mary Jane is truly a special, unique and inspiring woman. It is a breath of fresh air to be a part of this forum and of the other farmgirl connection forum. I finally get to connect with other women who hold the same values as I do- and if it wasn't for Mary Jane, I never would of found any of them. I know own all of her books, and will buy any others she ever writes. I hope to meet her some day. Connie

Posted - Aug 07 2009 : 09:03:33 AM ok, so I know this post was started back in Apr...but I have to tell you what a BAD Girl I am....I was in "Aunties Book Store" yesterday while in town....I was rummaging thru all the camping/fishing/trailer books & I came across their last MJF Outpost (even signed) but it was sort of behind some other books,,,,guess what I did,,,yep I 'rearrainged' the books & made sure MJ's book to prominance right up front! I am such a little stinker....that will teach the guys not to hide MJ's book behind the fly fishing books! lol!

Posted - Apr 27 2009 : 10:45:32 AM I get the notebook itch, too, Elizaray. Just too many blossoming inspirations to keep track of. And whether or not they all come to pass, they do influence a gradual positive change in our lives, as Alee said. Good stuff!

Posted - Apr 26 2009 : 08:17:51 AM Alee- I agree. I feel much the same way. Some days I feel like I need to dig out a notebook and pen and take notes like I do when studying for school! There is so much knowledge to absorb- but in a much nicer form than a text book!

Posted - Mar 20 2009 : 10:21:46 PM One of the things I love most about the books is the photography. I lose myself for hours just looking at the pictures, and then reading the text that goes along with it is like the icing on the cake! I really find that my mental focus shifts when I have been reading the books and magazines. I find that I actually feel more focused on the everyday and get more enjoyment out of what I am doing here at home for/with Nora and Doug. Isn't it amazing how something can be inspirational in so many ways. Sometimes things can be inspirational and you feel like you got shocked by an electric current. You have to get up and do something NOW. Sometimes the MJF things affect me like that. But sometimes it is a more subtle and long lasting type of inspiration. The type of inspiration that niggles at your mind and instead of evocking immediate change- it changes your frame of mind and really your whole life in slow and gentle way. |

Posted - Mar 13 2009 : 3:26:02 PM My copy sat on the kitchen table under a big pile of "stuff" for a few days before I found it. Laughing at myself here... Dave had just piled a bunch of "stuff" on the table and I was in a snit, thinking I'd out wait him in cleaning up the table. Gosh, was I ever steamed at myself when I realized I could have been reading my MJ book days ago! -grin- BTW, my latest MJ books is Stitching Room; Dave bought the Outpost for me a few months ago and I've enjoyed it greatly. I don't have children, nor grandchildren, but enjoyed every single page. Just seeing the joy on the little one's faces did my heart good. All Mary Jane's books are like having a pot of tea and a chin wag with an old friend, and I'm grateful.

Posted - Jul 08 2008 : 11:03:56 AM Hi Susan! So nice to "hear" your voice over here at the Outpost. The women here have talked before about the healing power of nature - it's where we belong, and so it grounds us like nothing else. I admire your ability to accept such a hugely ground-shaking event as your mom's passing and allow it to refocus your life. Change (especially tragic change) is so difficult, but it seems like only when we let it take us forth - like a river current - do our spirits blossom & evolve. Sounds like your birthday retreat is just what you need - enjoy!

Posted - Jul 07 2008 : 7:05:10 PM And I am SOOO loving it! It is absolutely stunning. I have been re-writing my life goals in the past few months and living closer to the Earth was part of my plan. Since my Mom's passing, I have felt so out of sorts and lost ~ like I slammed my life's book and didnt mark my place. I had to start over. Maybe it was for the best. This is JUST what I needed. I am more than excited. Thank you, thank you, thank you MJ! You are just an amazing woman. I know you hear this all the time but I wanted to tell you again. From me, from the heart. You are inspiring me to renew my spirit, my focus, my goals.
My dear DEAR husband is taking me to a "cabin by the lake" for my 49th birthday next month. He said I needed the rest, the calm, the quiet. We will fish together and cook together and read to each other and just BE. This book will be so wonderful to read between now and then.
Blessings to you and yours. You are all loved. And please give Meg and Lukas a hug from me and a big kiss to Stella Jane! One of these days I am just going to hop a plane and come see the farm.

Posted - Jul 01 2008 : 09:43:28 AM I've really looked forward to this book. I feel like our lives are definitely an outpost here. We really do have to provide alot of our own food by hunting and foraging. We'll spend the month of Aug/Sept hunting for blueberries and our freezer will be full to the top by the end of September. That's not counting moose and boo!
I did an amazon order....... What I'd do for a zucchini out of the garden! We've had a 50/60 summer. Growing has been slow.
there's no place like home....

Posted - Jun 30 2008 : 12:04:13 PM MJ's book is also available at Amazon.com. I went in and did a 5 star review of it. Some of you 'out there' women may want to do the same.....the rankings will help.

Posted - Jun 30 2008 : 12:00:28 PM We actually haven't gotten our copy yet! The girls are going to get such a kick out of seeing all of their hard work "come to life." They sweated and griped their way through A LOT of photos, but overall we made it fun by playing dress up, making our beloved tree swing (which is a bit weathered now, but still wonderful), and having a real lean-to tea party on our creek bank...
PS - Red quinoa is my favorite! Just fried up some organic bacon & fresh garden zucchini yesterday & ate them over a bed of red quinoa - yum!
