We were at the cabin and Jim decided to go to the nearby lake to see if he could see the moose I saw a few weeks ago. It was early and I wasn't dressed so I didn't go. Luckily I didn't. We have been leaving the cooler out on the deck right by the door (which we do know is probably not a good idea but the cabin is small and hadn't had any problems) I heard a slight bump and at first thought it was the cat but decided to go to the door and look. On first glance I saw what I thought was a dog head near the cooler. A few seconds later there was a huge paw on the cooler. I opened the door and yelled at it and it ran about 6 feet away, stopped and turned so I went out slammed the screen door and yelled somemore. Looking back I could have gotten a great picture of it but I wasn't sure how it was going to react so I just wanted to save the cooler and bring it in. It was a beautiful very fat healthy black bear. It should be quite comfortable while it's hibernating.JoAnn P.S. The cooler stays inside now : )

Wow! That's so exciting, JoAnn - as long as he/she doesn't cause much trouble! Our friends about 20 miles down the road have had a few sows & cubs in the yard lately, and a wild boar (which is scarier to me than a bear).
