Posted - May 23 2008 : 12:43:26 PM ...TERMITES! Right here in my good ol' farmhouse. I don't know what to do. I had an exterminator out to do an estimate and describe what he'd do - and he'll inject some sort of killing chemical all around the perimeter of the house and in the "slither space" (it's MUCH too short to be called a "crawl space") under the house....for SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS.
Have any of you dealt with termites? How did you - and what do you think is the safest way to do it? I live in a wood home, and it's just making me sick to think it's being eaten!

Posted - Jun 05 2008 : 08:02:27 AM Oh, Libbie, that's terrible. I HATE using chemicals of any kind, but we moved here and the termite treatment was due, and we were just too scared to turn it down because, like you said, they EAT your house! There are boards down at the barn that are riddled with holes & disintegrating.
Of course they say the application is very limited to the immediate perimeter, and it's not hazardous to your (or your kids') health, but I don't buy that. So, not I just make sure my kids don't dig right next to the house & hope for the best.
Can you get a competing quote & see if there's a cheaper option? Wonder why they cropped up now in your old, old house...
