The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation is an outstanding conservation organization. According to the RMEF website, their mission "is to ensure the future of elk, other wildlife and their habitat."

Their magazine is called Bugle, and it features beautiful photography. If you'd like to submit photos for consideration, check out their current photo "wish list."

Here's the link:

And here's a copy of the current Wish List with contact info at the bottom:

Photo Wish List
January 9, 2007

Dear Wildlife Photographer,

Below are our photo needs for upcoming issues of BUGLE. Let us know if you have any questions and, as always, thank you to all who submitted for the March/April 2007 issue.

Current Needs:

May/June ’07

Name That Elk Country
We’re looking for scenic shots of the Steens Mountain area in extreme southeastern Oregon.

Back of Beyond
We’d like to see backpack camps, horse camps, shots of unshaven hunters in vast country above timberline, lone hunter tracks in snow or mud in a wild, remote setting, shots of hunters looking into deep, winding canyons fading into distance, the backs of eagles drifting below photographer, toes of heavy-duty hunting boots hanging five off wedges of rock overlooking scary depths, hunters looking small and alone and far away, e.g. climbing up a switchbacking trail across a canyon from the photographer . . . maybe some trail signs saying “Trailhead, Forest Road 1437, 8.3 miles” or “Elk Basin -- 14 miles” “No motorized access” “Abandon All Hope, Ye Who Enter Here” etc.

Pennsylvania Initiative
We're in search of scenic landscape photos as well as shots of habitat-devouring development in Elk, Cameron and Clearfield counties. We’re also looking for photos of people admiring the view at the state’s elk viewing areas or any other shots that impart the notion of elk-based tourism, (like cars parked along the highway with folks viewing elk). We’re also looking for shots of black bears, turkeys, whitetails, snakes, songbirds and other wildlife in Pennsylvania’s elk country. In addition, generic shots of eastern elk are needed.

Pennsylvania Elk Hunting
Large parties of hunters, small parties, individual hunters, camps, check stations, nature scenics with hunters; hunters on or near railroad rights-of-way, roadsides, farmed ground, country roads, fencelines, power corridors, homes and barns.

Photo Essay - Heads on Sheds
Images of bleached skulls and antlers (with at least one elk if various species are represented) hanging on sheds, barns, garages, gates, etc.

July/August ’07

Name That Elk Country
We’re looking for scenic shots of Tabby Mountain or the surrounding area near Tabiona, Utah.

Covers
We’ll certainly look to photo essay submissions for potential covers, as well as classic spring/summer shots.

Future Photo Essays

Threats to Elk
For an upcoming photo essay, we’re looking for photos of elk and the human forces that threaten their habitat, such as elk amid housing development, highways and railroad tracks, oil and gas fields, heavily roaded mountainsides, etc.

Please have submissions for May/June in by January 26, and submissions for July/August by March 23.

Thank you in advance for your submissions; we couldn't produce such a great magazine without all of you!

Thanks,

John Hafner

The Back of beyond submission sounds wonderful! I have such clear pictures of what they want in my head! I can't wait to go see if I can capture some of that in the real world!
