Posted - Jan 09 2009 : 7:53:00 PM We live in a neighbor hood with cats. Lots and LOTS of cats. So all summer, fall and winter I have been missing the sweet sounds of birds. At our old home we had huge old trees that surrounded our duplex with HUGE windows. I got to see birds building their nests and hear their sweet songs every day. It was especially sweet when a pair of doves moved in.
Well this morning I was waiting for a friend to come with his truck to help me fetch some free furniture (gotta love free!) when I heard this foreign noise! What could it possibly be that sounds like birds in this neighborhood. I was so shocked to see a little family of birds in my neighbor's yard! It was the sweetest sound I have heard and I just stood and watched for about 15 minutes before I had to go do other things.
Don't you love how simple things like a bird song can absolutely transfix you?

Posted - Aug 09 2009 : 08:49:18 AM Here's a good resource to learn more about birds: www.allaboutbirds.org/NetCommunity/Page.aspx?pid=1189
It's an online bird book, and you can also hear the sounds.

Posted - Feb 09 2009 : 6:06:07 PM I think I can only stand to live in a city so long if I can't hear or see something wild. I think that is one thing I really love about birds! It's like taking a vitamin pill of the wild each day. It won't sustain you completely, but it will get you through until you can get the real thing!
I always love driving down the highway and seeing majestic eagles and bold falcons soaring above. I once even had an eagle stoop and dive and land about 3 feet from my car on the edge of town. It was amazing! I looked into it's eyes and I could almost see the inner fire of that spirit! I think he changed me for life! |

Posted - Feb 08 2009 : 1:56:57 PM I love the sound of birds. It's so soothing! We have a lot of feral cats in our area. So far they haven't taken too many birds.
I cannot wait until I can open the windows and just hear them all the time. There's a woodpecker that loves to peck in the tree across the street. I love that sound. The people who live in the house near the tree - they hate the sound. I keep saying to send him over to my trees.
