"When I see an adult on a bicycle, I do not despair for the future of the human race," wrote H.G. Wells. The perfection of the humble bicycle may, in fact, turn out to be the 19th century's greatest gift to the modern era. Anytime you ride a bicycle, you're building up some serious green karma, and we salute you. But there's green and then there's really green.
Take the Sierra Club's "How Green Is My Bike" quiz to find out just how green your bicycle riding really is: http://www.sierraclub.org/howgreen/bikeride/

How Did You Do? Your score: 90 out of 100 points. American Flyer (80-100 points):
You're truly using your bicycle to save the planet. Keep pedaling!

Your score: 77 out of 100 points. Three-Speed (60-79 points): You're on the right track, but maybe your wheels are just a little wobbly. Perhaps a tune-up's in order
I don't take care of my chain properly, and that one killed me. :-(

Sad to say I don't even own a bike right now - gave it away a couple of moves ago. Oh, how I love flying along on those open wheels. The last time I truly enjoyed biking was in Trout Lake, WA about 7 (has it been that long?) years ago. Wow! Sounds wonderful right now!

I got 88 out of 100. I have such an old bike! It's about 15 years old. It needs new pedals. Hubby wanted to buy me a new one for Christmas but I refused. The seat is ripped, the pedals are broken... but it still works great. He's put so much work into it. I asked for new pedals for spring so I can get back out there.

Since this was originally posted - I now have a new bike. Basket on the front and panniers on the back. I'm ready for grocery shopping or a trip to the library.
I'm trying to use it for any errand under 4 miles. Soon - we'll expand our territory when I build up enough stamina.

Deb- That is awesome! I have to get a new bike... Mine was stolen. Everyone wanted me to report it to the police- but I guess if someone needed to steal a bike with a baby seat on it- they needed it more than I did! |
