I have recently re-read the "Woodswoman" series and she has really inspired me (again). I am trying to come up with a plan that would let me live a bit out of the loop (but close enough that DS can go to school and I can pick up work until I can go all out on my own) I want my son to grow up loving the outdoors and getting away for the pressure of childhood that is so rampant these days. My plan is to find somewhere small and simple where we can hike, bike, swim, and close to camping. I can work doing anything from retail to secretarial jobs and make a decent amount and since my needs are so basic, I can put away a lot for rainy days and get out of the working world. I want a small garden that I can sustain food for us, bake my own bread and live a healthy life. My Papa is my inspiration. He ate very good natural food and loved to walk and bike and was stress free. Although modern medicine is what eventually killed him, he is my true inspiration on how to live a good, healthy life.
A large part of this is that I somehow got lost in the world of materialism and working for no gain. My health is out of whack but I am working on it by slowly coming back to a more natural and nature centered life.

The thing I remind myself is that it doesn't happen in a day - no matter how much I wish it. The changes my family has made toward a more natural lifestyle have evolved slowly. Now that we have our own farm & are diving into garden, orchard, and forest management, I sometimes feel overwhelmed - like I'll never get everything done or it'll all just fall through. The trick is to tune out all that nasty static & just plug away, one task at a time, one meal at a time, whatever. And read, read, read. There's a lot of knowledge to be gained from other people's efforts. Jen

Yes, I am agree. I am working it one day at a time. Right now, my DH still has a 2 year committment to the Navy but we are changing out lifestyle somewhat. Food we eat, less stuff, more time outdoors...etc.

catscharm74- that sounds like a wonderful dream and very similar to my own. I love being around people but the isolation of a self-supporting farm seems like nirvana to me! What is the author of the series you mentioned? I think I will go buy a copy when I can.

| Elizaray- Anne LaBastille. Check them out from the library. She has about 10 books but her Woodswomana books are my favorite. |
