What time of year do you go look for the first berries in your area?

Summertime!! Although yesterday I took these pictures of thimbleberry blooms and wild blackberry flowers---which means blackberries, huckleberries, salmon berries and blueberries are not far behind. I wish I could make these pictures smaller---something for me to work on. MB

Do you think in like a month or longer? It seems like I always over estimate berry season and only find the ultra ripe ones.

Probably--Keep checking--most everything here is just getting flowers. It is hard to wait. MB
PS Even the farmers fields with Strawberries are all in bloom--no berries that I can see--and here, June is Strawberry month. MB

I am so outside your garden worlds. Thanks for the little blooms of love in your photos MB.
Strawberries are Jan-Apr
Loquats are Feb
Blueberries were April-May
Mayhaws were the same ending middle May.
Bosyenberries are almost done as it was may sometimes we get them in june but it has been to dry.
Chokecherries are coming up in August

An island off the east coast=Florida.
I picked up an everbearing variety in a flat of 12 seedlings while in SC over Easter. Potted them up with some grape tomatoes and these babies started fruiting last month and are still bearing. They are keeping cool in the shade on the north side of my house.
My mangoberries are crunk!
Where do you hang ten? |

I live in the Pacific Northwest, so our growing season is a bit shorter here :)

Blueberries are being picked right now down in Skagit Valley. Strawberry and Raspberries are mostly over and wild black berries are yours for the finding. the truely wild ones I am talking about--not the Himalayas or Evergreen ones. We had a week of rain although the past few days have been nice. The tiny berries are sorta soggy but nummy. See how wet the leaves are.

Yum! I will have to take pictures when I go berry picking. I love this time of year! Soon plums and grapes will be ready in this area!

Chiggers here making picking berries either a scorching hot chore or an itchy ordeal. What about out your way? Do your berry patches come with bugs? |

I don't think we have chiggers here. I've never seen on so I guess I wouldn't know. I haven't seen too many bugs on berries in the wild. Slugs,,,,,and small black bears. My elderly neighbor said she always whistles when visiting the blackberry bushes in case a bear was on the other side. MB

Blackberries here - and chiggers & ticks galore. Big emerald-green June bugs suck berry lobes dry - news to me!
